Asif Ali after the huge success of Salt & Pepper is slowly climbing the ladder of stardom. He needs a solo action hit to establish himself as a saleable star.

Asif had given bulk dates to writer and director AK Sajan, known for his action films like Stop Violence and Lanka. Together the team has made Asuravithu an action packed thriller, with Samvrutha Sunil playing heroine.

Asuravithu is about a guy (Asaf Ali) studying in a seminary to become a priest, due to circumstances forced to take the gun to destroy evil. In the process he himself becomes the new don!

The film has a strong supporting cast of Kalabhavan Mani, Siddique, Jagathy Sreekumar, Harisri Asokan and a dozen new faces. It has music by Alphonse and Rajesh Menon.

The action packed Asuravithu produced by Leela Creations has been snapped up by Central Pictures. The film is scheduled to release in September.

Nayanthara offered thulabaram on Aug 17, (The Malayalam New Year day) at the famous Chettikulangara Bhagavathy Temple, near her home town Tiruvalla.

The thulabaram was done with 50 kg of jaggery.

Nayanthara reached the temple at around 7 am in the morning. After the Uchapooja and Chanthattam ritual, thulabaram was offered.

Nayan took rest in between at the office of the Sreedevi vilasam Hindumatha convention office.

In fact, after her conversion to Hinduism she had visited the Chottanikara temple near Kochi and offered special poojas and Annadanam.

Nayan told the media that she had come to the temple only for prayer and was not ready to take any questions from them.

Our source informs us that she offered Annadanam and also promised help to the installation of a tower on the South end of the famous temple.

Mammootty and Prithviraj are a hot commercial pair after the 2010 blockbuster Pokkiri Raja, directed by Vysakh.

Now director close to the two Amal Neerad is bringing them back in Arival Chuttika Nakshathram (ACN) produced by Prithviraj’s August Cinema. In the film Mammootty will play the hero while Prithviraj is the villain!

Arival Chuttika Nakshathram (Hammer, Sickle & Star) has great title value as it  is the symbol of the Communist Party, who has ruled Kerala for many years. ACN will be a political thriller set in the pre-Independence era of the 1930’s and 40’s when the communist movement started in Kerala.

The script is written by Shankar Ramakrishnan of Urumi fame with music by hit pair Rafeeq Ahmed writing the lyrics set to tune by Gopi Sundar.

Their music was one of the major reason for Anwar turning out to be a hit. Amal Neerad himself is the cameraman of the film scheduled to start by the end of the year.

The Tamil Nadu state government has put a ban on film shoots in nearly 85 monuments in the state! The ban was imposed considering “the damage on allowing film shooting which also spoils the place and pile up of garbage”, according to the state archaeological department.

It clearly means no further shoot in some of the most popular historic locations like the famous Thirumala Naicker Mahal in Madurai.

Remember Mani Ratnam’s Bombay song “Kannanule..” where hero Aravind Swamy meets Manisha heroine for the first time? The song was picturised at Thirumala Naicker Mahal.

In Mani Ratnam’s classic Iruvar,  Mohanlal  who plays MGR struggling to enter films meeting Prakash Raj in the role of  Karunanidhi then a budding writer for the first time in supposed to be the set of a historical film was actually shot at Thirumala Naicker Mahal.

The Tamil Nadu government wants to protect all ancient sites from film shooting. Madurai and surrounding areas alone have 16 such declared monuments.

For Tamil film director’s it is a major blow as historical monuments in the background are ideal location for hero expressing his “immortal love” for the heroine or shooting love songs.

It seems to be wedding season in K-Town !

It’s not official, but a little birdie tells us that hot-shot music composer and singer Yuvan Shankar Raja is getting married in the first week of September.

Earlier, Yuvan was married to Sujaya Rao which ended up in divorce  due to non compatibility and since then his family was looking out for the right girl from a good family.

Now the buzz is that the girl Shilpa is not from the industry and Yuvan has fallen head over heels in love with her after meeting her.

Friends say they make a nice pair.

At the moment, Yuvan is basking under the extraordinary sales of his Mankatha audio, which has become a runaway hit.

Sources close to the composer says that it will be a very private affair and an official announcement is on the anvil soon.
